Basin modeling
The analysis of sedimentary basins is carried out as part of the implementation of the long-term exploration strategy of JSC NC KazMunayGas and is aimed at replenishing and ensuring the stability of resource growth by identifying new prospecting areas promising for oil and gas. The creation of digital geological structural and tectonic models of sedimentary basins is a necessary stage for the implementation of a 3D basin model of hydrocarbon potential, on the basis of which it will be possible to assess the prospects of sedimentary basins in Kazakhstan, which will also have a positive impact on the optimization of exploration processes at the search stage when choosing priority objects for exploration. The main purpose of constructing models of sedimentary basins is to reconstruct the history of the basin in an attempt to predict the dynamics of the main processes from generation to conservation of hydrocarbons.
KMGI implements a full complex of basin modeling, which includes the following stages:
- Construction of a structural-tectonic model
- Construction of a tectonic-sedimentation model
- Modeling of the UV potential of generation centers
The territory of Kazakhstan covers 15 sedimentary basins: the Caspian Sea, Ustyurt-Bozashi, Mangyshlak, Southern Torgai, Northern Torgai, Shu-Sarysu, Zaisan, Teniz, North Kazakhstan, Ili, Aral, Irtysh, Syrdarya, Balkhash, Alakol.
Within the framework of basin modeling, all three stages of work on the study of the main areas with proven oil and gas potential were performed, maps of geological risks were constructed for the qualitative and territorial distribution of parameters of oil and gas complexes. Work is also being carried out jointly with JSC NC KMG, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhst
