In the period from October 3 to October 5 of this year the employees of Competence Center for Hydrogen Energy of “KMG Engineering” LLP (Senior Researcher Dauletbakov Didar and Suleimenova Botakoz) visited a number of universities and institutes of Almaty within the working visit:
· “D.V.Sokolskiy Institute of Fuel, Catalysis and Electrochemistry” JSC
· Al-Farabi Kazakh National University
· K.I. Satpaev Kazakh National Technical University
· Kazakh-German University
· “Kazakh-British Technical University” JSC
“D.V.Sokolskiy Institute of Fuel, Catalysis and Electrochemistry” JSC is engaged in research of catalytic carbon dioxide conversion of methane-containing raw materials to produce synthesis gas, aviation fuel by Fischer-Tropsch method of other valuable products. Here representatives of KMGE got acquainted with the laboratory of the Corrosion Competence Center, which conducts tests and analysis to establish the causes of corrosion of metals of technological installations of oil refineries.
As part of a visit to Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the colleagues took part in a meeting with the Dean of the Department of Physics and Technology N. Beissen, General Director of “EcoWatt” LLP S. Kombarov, as well as other representatives of the Department of Plasma Physics, Nanotechnology and Computer Physics. Employees of the university presented materials on distributed energy.
Further, on the basis of K.I. Satpaev Kazakh National Technical University on October 5 negotiations with the Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering of the university – G. Boyko were held. There are also a number of developments in the extraction of vanadium and nickel from heavy oils, treatment of industrial effluents with aluminum hydrosol and aluminum polycoxychloride, which are modern coagulants that form stable compounds with many inorganic and organic compounds.
The same day, at the Kazakh-German University, the employees of the Center met with the Vice President for International Cooperation and Sustainable Development of KGU, Head of the UNESCO Chair on Water Resources Management in Central Asia – Barbara Janusz-Pawletta, where they discussed prospects for further cooperation between KMGE and KGU, as well as the possibility of joint work to develop the Water Resource Atlas for the production of green/blue hydrogen of Kazakhstan for the needs of NC “KazMunayGas” JSC.
And at a meeting in “Kazakh-British Technical University” JSC with the Professor of IT Department, head of project groups and coordinator of the UN SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations) of “KBTU” JSC – A. Akzhalova, the colleagues were informed about international project activities and experience of KBTU participation in preparing applications and receiving grants. They were also given tactical recommendations for finding international partners to submit grant proposals and developed proposals for the joint formation of applications by KMGE and KBTU in the area of sustainable development. In addition, the Center’s staff got acquainted with the developments of the SEC of Alternative Energy and Nanotechnology.
According to the results of the visits, the main source of funding for R&D projects is government funds. Employees of the Competence Center for Hydrogen Energy believe that the results of activities of specialized institutes and universities in the field of renewable energy remain low, because they are of a fundamental nature due to the lack of opportunities to bring prototypes to the scale of industrial models and ready-made solutions that would be of interest to business.
– In addition to large-scale funding, in our opinion, it is necessary to combine the efforts of public and private structures, as well as industrial enterprises to increase the commercialization of developments and improve the use of scientific results, – summarized D. Dauletbakov, employee of the Competence Center of KMG Engineering.
